Here is an idea that is sure to create lots of Noise. (That is the idea anyway)

What if God & Devil are two extremes of the same phenomenon of creation energy?

Imagine if God could be the experience of the pure spiritual giving energy similar to a bright flash light shining towards you and the Devil is the exact opposite flow of the same energy experienced as the negative flow of the creation energy or in the analogy of the flashlight, the opposite flow of the light towards you which is experienced as darkness. Not the absence of light, but rather the taking away or opposite flow of the same light.

This ties in with the duality principle, where for every action a spontaneous opposite reaction is created to keep the original action in balance. Which is basically, for every good act a bad act is manifested into potential reality to keep it in balance. If this is so It could be the basis for the middle path in Buddhism.

What do you fellow spiritual seekers & friends think?

Firstly, I should say that my (probably unpopular) viewpoint is that both God and Devil are abstract concepts that have been anthropomorphized by humans...just because that's what us humans tend to do when we don't really understand something :)

I think your excellent question has brought up something very important.

If there was no down, how would you know up?

If there was no darkness, then how would you know light?

The negative is a necessary pre-requisite to the positive existing.

And if we cut to the chase...God is meaningless without the Devil.

So rather than both being opposites, they are, in fact, partners, if not non-identical twins. Both being the same energy is a good way of saying the same thing.

I shall now run for cover :)

There was a God before there was a devil and God is not meanless without the devil. God created the devil but when he created him he created an beautiful angel that later choose to go against God and a war began in heaven. God create evil so that we would have something to choose from when he gave mankind free will to choose. I don't know why we try so hard to minimize God. That is alright everybody is entitle to their own beliefs that is all part of our free will to choose. The devil does not love you but God loves you very much. I would say earth is God's experimental station for man/woman. – flowingwater Nov 27 at 9:20

I don't think we do try to minimize God. I think most of what we talk about on Inward Quest is nothing but God. But I think the issue you have is that the concept of God that often gets discussed is not your own personal concept of God. And so you seem to have the view that it is somehow "wrong" and so we need to keep being reminded of these biblical passages and stories. I have no problem with that. But I suspect that if you were to look more broadly at what is being said on this website, you would see much that would actually enhance your understanding of your own religious beliefs. – Stingray Nov 27 at 21:39
Continuing on I just don't like it when we try to me deminize God like saying God would meanless without the devil. I understand the concept you are trying to say that if there was no evil than we would not know how to appreciate the good God is and what we have in our lives that are good. But you can be happy and having and enjoying good things in your life without having experience the evil. Going through the negativie can help you appreciate more of the postive when you recieve it but not neccesary. I do have an open and a broad look at many aspects of things. I do look at the the broader prospects from the site and at everyone's views and the data and information that is distributed among us is fantastic for it is like going to the library of Alexandria and everyone is reading books and having experiences and than sharing with the others that are there in the library with them and so we all get to share data, informations, and experiences. We sort them, accept or delete different data at this time on our journey of an spiritual quest of life and God. This is really great and I even agree to disgree. – flowingwater 7 mins ago – flowingwater Dec 3 at 1:02

I'm sure God doesn't mind if we belittle her a little from time to time in the name of self-exploration ;) You have a nice day too, flowingwater – Stingray Dec 3 at 21:58

The universe exist with positive and negative energies, values, beliefs and so and so on, one of the laws of physics states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The buddhist and my self believe in duality, the mere existance of the universe would cease to exist without it. Therefore stingray is correct when he states that you can not have good without evil and you can not have a god without a devil, just as any good story has to have an antagonist and a protagonist or it is just a biography. And also they maybe one and the same, GOD and the devil maybe two sides of the same coin. However darkness is the absense of light particles/photons/waves so they are not even related. The hardest part is to define what is related and what is not. Without positive and negative energies you would not be seeing my words on the blank screen.

I would suggest that darkness is a relative lack of light - there are few (if any) absolutes in nature. Sunspots appear dark compared to the rest of the sun but they would still fry your sausages pretty quickly if you managed to embed one in your cooker – Stingray Nov 27 at 8:20

God created evil and he also created the devil except when he created the devil was one of the most beautiful angels.

Now the reason God created evil was to give us humans an choice. He created us to be free moral agent with the ability to choose and if there was nothing for us to choose than there would be no choice.

I'm trying to fine the bible verse I haven't found it I will have to get back with you but it is in Psalms.

You are, what you do, when it counts. The Masao, knowledge is neither good nor bad, it depends on what you do with it. – Goodisevil Nov 27 at 7:57

This question to me is kind of like saying existence and non-existence are two sides of the same coin. Believe me I have done this meditation and if you let it, it could drive you insane!

If existence needs non-existence to exist then it can't exist but if it does not exist then it is therefore non-existent and for non-existence to exist something has to exist so therefore it does exist.

For me I see God as supreme existence the everything, now the devil is see as the illusion and what leads people into the deeper depths of error and illusion until so lost and confused the person feels that he or she has lost connection with God. That of course is impossible but can be experienced through that getting lost in your negative beliefs or doubts fears and worries.

Now because the devil is the lie and the ultimate supreme illusion deceptive and leads people into deceptiveness, error and confusion that is a pretty "real" thing. We all deal with and fight with it, but by turning to the ultimate truth "God" it vanishes before us as we rebuke it to flee from us as the empty nothingness it really is.

There is no Devil.....not in the way that most are lead to believe. There is only one energy... It is light (or good). Unless you are one of the people that walks into a room looking for the "dark switch" There is no darkness.....only the absent of light.

Well, what i think here is there is a plane separate from the distinction of good and evil, termed as God and Devil by you. The supreme is beyond good and evil and the other way of saying is that good and evil reside in the Supreme. So the so called path of balance is also seen as something beyond good and evil. The world i am talking about is not a digital world (meaning not only '0' and '1') but more. It is not either black or white (bad or good), but grey or neither black nor white. I am not sure how to explain this, but one needs to come out of thinking in terms of judgements or definitions like God and Devil or good and bad. The truth is beyond this and once you get to realize this it is very difficult to describe in words. So giving becomes taking, good becomes bad and bad becomes good.. friend becomes enemy and enemy becomes a friend.. such is the world a little bit difficult to understand with the limitations of senses. Thinking with the senses is like playing a game with the rules and limitations set by us but it is fun thinking in terms of good, bad, love, hate, winning, loosing etc. Well, I am not sure how other players are going to react to this.. but I really cannot stay for long with the illusion!! I quit sometimes.. and i remind myself that I am free and infinite being..

actaully the world is black and white it is either right or wrong, true or false, yes or no, you only make it grey to alleviate yourself of any real decision, Mr Miagi say, "Walk on right side of road, Walk on left side of road, no walk in middle get squashed. – Goodisevil Nov 27 at 8:01
Someone once said you can not serve two masters you will serve one and hate the other. You can not straddle the fence you will either be on one side or the other. You must choose with your free will or else you will have choosen by default of not choosing still you have choosen without realizing it. – flowingwater Nov 27 at 9:26
agreed with both of you.. this is what logic makes us understand.. the rules of the game that we have chosen to play.. the discussion is always logical.. so your answer relates correctly here.. – perfection Nov 27 at 18:33

Some think of a Satan/Michael type concept with Christ at the top and Beelzebub at the bottom. These two aspects claim (or wish to deny, respectively) that they do not know what the other is doing...

concept of devil is incorrect. its a chidish device to frighten the ignorant into behaving properly. satan acts on the direct orders of god as a tester- as evidenced in the life of job, for example or more precisely when jesus went into the desert after his baptism by john- the fact that we feel the tests to be too ''harsh ''or ''not fair''is our own lack of spiritual developement
