This question actually came up in my Theology Class I am taking. I thought about it a lot, and finally figured out that to me, salvation comes through Faith. But you may not agree; that's okay. So, I ask: What does the word "salvation" mean to you?

I am looking forward to the global answers that will be posted here.

Peace,

Jai

@Jai Would you mind sharing your definition of faith? Thanks..

Salvation from hunger is food. From thirst is water. From pain is relief. From despair is hope. From slavery is power. From ignorance is knowledge. From stupidity is wisdom. From sickness is health. What is faith? Faith is fidelity, loyalty, trust. It is claimed that faith in that which is not seen can bring it into sight. Faith then is the key to salvation and infidelity the fundamental sin.

To me salvation means contentment with life. You have found what you were looking for and now you Know about the connection between You and God. Salvation means that you have a perspective on life which keeps you smiling. Love

Salvation to me means a full realization of our true nature...living from a place of Oneness, in that state of awareness where everything and everyone is interconnected and all derive from the same Source (whatever you choose to call that Source).

Well Jai, with this kind of question, to stimulate my imagination, i usually use that magic book of all books ... the dictionary ;

it gives several definitions of the word salvation and the definition i prefer is ... "the act of preserving or the state of being preserved from harm" ... this certainly fits in with my belief

have fun :)

@blubird - good advice; use a dictionary when in doubt

@ele - yes, but "the state of being preserved from harm" implies a belief in the existence of harm

(24 Feb '12, 04:54) blubird two

@blubird I'm convinced. However, one can self harm; if that's the intent or vibration. sorry, was not a conscience decision on my part to put my apology under your question; it was a surprise to me. It seems I've always been surrounded by angels, protecting me from harm & w/o thought guided me to a spirit shield.

salvation for me is being in the truth.God is the spirit of truth. yes you say to your self that is to easy answer. but look at it this way when you are in truth does annything hurt you? when someone is telling you lie that will hurt you. but if you know the truth about the lie why he lie and for what perpace then you know what this person is doing and for what reason is it a selfish reason or is it because he did not have anny other choice? when you know the truth about it does it hurt you anny more? or will it help you make better choice? if you know the truth about what comes after this life on earth does it hurt you to know that your body will die someday but that your spirit that is you will never die?

"God our Savior; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth."—1 Timothy 2:3, 4.

http://www.spurgeon.org/sermons/1516.htm

  1. Salvation by grace (undeserved mercy), not works: Eph.2:8,9 For by grace are ye saved through faith, not of yourselves...not of works Mk.10:25-27 Who can be saved? With men it is impossible Rom.3:20a By deeds of law shall no flesh be justified in His sight Rom.11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works Gal.2:16 Justified by the faith of Christ and not by works of the law 2Tim.1:9 Saved us, not according to our works, but according to His grace Tit.3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done

  2. Eternal salvation: A. You can never lose it, even if you make mistakes and fall: Psa.37:24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with His hand Jn.3:36a He that believeth on the Son...hath everlasting life Jn.6:37 Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out Jn.10:28 I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand Rom.8:38,39 I am persuaded that [nothing] shall be able to separate us from the love of God...in Christ Jesus 1Cor.3:11-15 [If works are] wood, hay and stubble...shall be burned, yet he himself shall be saved 1Cor.5:5 Destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved Heb.13:5b I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee 2Tim.2:13 Though we believe not, yet He abideth faithful 1Jn.5:13 Ye may know that ye have eternal life

  3. Receiving Jesus guarantees eternal life in Heaven: Rom.6:23b The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ Jn.11:26 Whosoever...believeth in Me shall never die Jn.14:2-3 In My Father's house are many mansions 1Pet.1:3,4 Incorruptible inheritance reserved in Heaven for you 1Jn.5:11 God hath given to us eternal life...in His Son (See Rev.21:1-27 and 22:1-5 for a description of Heaven)

  4. The results of being born again: A. Spiritual rebirth makes you a new creature: Jn.3:3b Except a man be born again, he cannot see Kingdom Mat.18:3 Be converted and become as little children Jn.1:13 Born, not of blood, nor of the will of man, but of God Rom.12:2a Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind 2Cor.5:17 If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature 1Pet.1:23 Born again, not of corruptible seed, but...by the Word of God

  5. All men are not saved sons of God in their natural state: Eph.2:2,3,12 Ye were children of disobedience, children of wrath, aliens and strangers without Christ Mat.7:13 Wide is the gate...that leadeth to destruction, and many... go in thereat Jn.3:19 Light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light Jn.8:44 Ye are of your father the devil Jn.8:47 Ye hear (God's Words) not, because ye are not of God

http://deeptruths.com/bible-basics/salvation.html

  1. His word is truth The word became flesh. "John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us," And he became grace and taught the word to men. "Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;" He prayed to God to sanctify people by the word, which is the truth. "John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."

But, if teachers of the word of God do not consent with these three factors, they are false teachers. We must reject them. "1 Tim 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, ... 5 ... from such withdraw thyself"

  1. His gift is salvation "Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" Here we see that salvation is the gift of God. This does not mean that God gives his gifts to every disobedient liar. But, he gives his gifts to his children.

We think that people commit sin because of their lustful desire. As true as it is, the devil began sin and he makes people to commit sin. The Lord Jesus Christ came to destroy the work of the devil and free people. "1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." If we still sin we are of the devil.

  1. Word and Power for Salvation As sin overcomes someone and takes him/her to death, word and power of Jesus Christ overcomes sin through righteousness in some other and takes him/her to eternal life. In you, either sin or grace, whichever overcomes the other will take you to its destiny, which is either to eternal death or to eternal life. "Rom 5:21 ... as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Anybody will obey his/her Lord because the Lord is the master. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and obey him. "Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne." He overcame as a man. So, you can also overcome. If you do you will rule with him.

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.

And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.

The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done.

Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.

If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

Isaiah 61:10 I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

those that have eyes to see and ears to hear will find their salvation. and because they will have their salvation they will not die in their sin. the dead are not alive and the living will not die. do not be surprise at my saying if one walk in darkness and does not see the way he will fall, but if one walk in the light he can see the way and will not fall.

Salvation to me is the freedom to choose and move from one state to another state. The freedom to dislike a certain situation and be able to move out of that situation into another one.

If your ill salvation is being in a state where your well. If your poor salvation would be to move into a state where your rich.

Even the freedom to move from a fairly pleasant state to another one could be salvation.

After all, wouldn't it be a living hell to be stuck, stranded or beached in one state for the rest of eternity. Even if that state wasn't too bad!

A really astute answer, @Monty Riviera! Deeply philosophical, too. It will give me food for thought for time to come! Thanks. Love, Jai♥
