I think it is also called the "Awareness of inner light." Something beyond the the physical, the Atman. Here is a picture of India during Diwalli.

Is part of this holiday where the wife fasts all day until her husband feeds her?

edited 23 Nov '12, 06:15 While Diwali is popularly known as the "festival of lights", the most significant spiritual meaning is "the awareness of the inner light". Central to Hindu philosophy is the assertion that there is something beyond the physical body and mind which is pure, infinite, and eternal, called the Atman.

@ursixx-yea.. ur right..,its all about inner awareness... :))

(14 Nov '12, 08:50) supergirl

@dollar bill- what ur talking about is ..called "KARVA-CHOWTH", where the wife fasts all the day..for her husband's long n happy life. its also damn beautiful festival..,depicting the "pure-commited love" of husband-wife. it was there on 4th of nov. ,we celebrated this also.

(14 Nov '12, 08:53) supergirl

@supergirl "KARVA-CHOWTH" Thank you. Where in India are you located?

(14 Nov '12, 17:45) Dollar Bill

happy diwali. and yes there is something pure after the water it is you the spirit made in the image of the creator, born of spirit. if you can meditate and make your water pure and learn from the light that you are,but that light might seams like something outside of you at the beguinning, but once born of spirit you will be able to understand all that. and yes it is a meditation of let there be light be the light that you can be experience and enjoy.

@dollar bill- i am in maharashtra. Maharashtra is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west. i am located in west side of india.

(15 Nov '12, 01:37) supergirl

@white tiger- thank you..,u have framed all its meaning in "beautiful words"

(15 Nov '12, 01:39) supergirl
