I have always been interested in OBE but have never experienced it. Does anyone one know any techniques which might be of help? Also what are some of the purposes of OBE? If you have ever experienced it what were your experiences?

I Think Therefore I Am

As you grow more spiritual certain things will start happening naturally. You do not have to force it just flow with it.

I can have an out of body experience by drifting into sleep consciously. When in this state I know that my body is in the bed and that my spirit is moving about. When I am out of body I can will myself to go anywhere and the manifestation is immediate. As soon as I think it I am there. I did not do anything to prepare myself for this experience it just started happening. At first it was scary because sometimes I felt that I would not be able to find my way back to my body. But after continuous practice I realize that there is nothing to fear.

I had many OBE's when I was a young child. I would leave my body, and fly around like a bird. I seemed to be limited to my home, but I think it was more my fear of going any further rather than any outer limit set for me. I very clearly remember the last OBE I had as a child. I looked down at my body, and felt sad, because something told me that now that I had realized what was going on, I was not going to be able to do it anymore.

My father used to tell a great story about an OBE he had as a child. He floated up to the ceiling, and stuck his head into "heaven". He saw four of his deceased female great-aunts, seated at a table and-get this!-playing cards! They looked down at him, and scolded him severely. They said, "You get right back into your body, and don't ever come up here again!" He said that as he got older, he wondered if they were really playing cards, but that is what he remembered them doing, or what they seemed to be doing.

Shirley MacLaine tells a lot about OBE's in her book, "Out on a Limb". At the time, she took a lot of heat for writing that book, but now it seems tame by comparison to other books that have come out since then.

I can achieve a sense of total disconnect from my body when I meditate, which feels great, but I have yet to be able to actually float upwards like I did as a child. I think God let me have those OBE's so I would know for sure later in life that I indeed have a soul and it is separate from my body.

Hope this little answer helps you on your quest.

Blessings, Jai

As I child I could at will seem to separate from my body and "see" myself as I would be sitting with other people, I could kind of see my physical body from other people's persepective. Was that OBE?

Bit pushed for time at the moment but I was interested in this quite a bit back in the 90s. And one of the foremost proponents of techniques at that time was a chap called Robert Bruce.

I seem to recall he also had some free downloadable books available, perhaps other stuff too now.

There's this site: obe4u Seems there's nothing special about OBE, Lucid Dreaming and Astral Projection. You can do it any time, many times, following the intructions in these two books, that you can download for free in the site. One is the textbook and the other is the workbook.

A Practical Guidebook(SOBT-1)

Ultimate Yoga. 2012

They are pdf's. Download them and read them carefully, even the info on the site, and you'll be able to OBE.

I just did it last night. It was a BLAST!!! And I haven't finished reading the books yet! :)

  • Aplications of OBE are the following:
  • Influencing the physiology of one’s own body.
  • Seeing people that one wants to meet with, but who are otherwise inaccessible or difficult to reach (simulated).
  • Meeting with famous people from any time period, living or deceased (simulated).
  • Meeting the deceased, including relatives, in order to help cope with their loss (simulated).
  • Supplemental rehabilitation for those disabled in any way and new possibilities for them.
  • Additional opportunities for athletes to master their skills.
  • An alternative to the computer as a means of entertainment.
  • Simulating various situations from an area of life.
  • Studying all possible subject-matters and learning skills, including foreign languages.
  • Discovering unusual capabilities in oneself.
  • Detailed recollection in minute detail of any life event from birth on.
  • Obtaining information about life, oneself, one’s surroundings, and other people.
  • Experiencing any type of pleasure (including sexual).
  • Making it easier to stick to a diet thanks to the unlimited amount of food available in the phase.
  • Visiting any place in the universe (simulated).
  • Entertainment.
  • Fulfilling dreams and desires, including secret desires.
  • Self-healing.
  • Performing complex mental calculations and solving various problems.
  • Improving one’s psychology: ridding oneself of complexes, phobias, lack of self-confidence, etc.
  • Creative development: creating and working on musical, sculptural, and architectural projects, as well as other creative works.

Good Luck!

When younger I've read some books of sidartha gautama and ghalil gibran and they talked so much about obe that I began by curiosity doing the exercises they described in their books , until one day I really got myself out of my body. That was the first and scary experienca I had. I was shaken at that time and it took me more than a year to go back trying the same thing again, but I did and I've had many grat experience after that. And I even got myself into places describes in books and helped with my energy a group that studied projectiology of Waldo Vieira in Brazil
