Well, Wade and I have done it!!! We are married. And, for us, it was a spiritual event. We were married in a church, before God and our friends.

I thought that our friends at IQ would like to know this news, and I wanted to thank all of you for your support over the years! We spent a lot of time here on IQ years ago, and Wade and I have found that love has just grown bigger and bigger as the years have sped by.

But is marriage a spiritual event? Does it change one's spirituality, whatever that may be? It surely has changed ours. But I thought I would pose the question. After all, it is certainly a life-changing event. We have been through much, but in answering the questions here on IQ, Wade and I spent many happy hours debating the merits of various questions found here, and enjoyed answering the questions. Sometimes we differed greatly in our answers; sometimes we were very close. But IQ helped to bring us closer together- figuratively and literally.

Blessings to everyone here. We wish you all could have seen us get married!

EDIT October 20, 2015: Wade and would like to thank everyone for their love and good wishes that were expressed in the answers below. Thank you so very much! We love and appreciate you all!

Please, please IQ Moderator, please let this post stand for a week or so before you decide whether to yank it or not. (LOL!)

I must admit, before our marriage I felt that being married would be no different because I loved her and she loved me so much how could that get better? But now during and after our wedding I feel a happiness that continues, a love much higher and greater than the love and happiness I had before the marriage. Something feels so much lighter and wonderful about living. I feel like the old me died on the cross with Jesus and the New Man has risen. I feel great comfort and peace.

So I do feel like marriage is a spiritual event that changes you, maybe it had to do with our sincerity of our marriage and not going for tradition and ritual (because that is the way it is suppose to be done.) Our wedding was very different and much more close to the heart we did everything our way. We walked up the isle to the music "I Mean What I Say When I Say I Do." We not only repeated our vows after the minster but as well put emotion and feeling of sincerity behind those words. Then we said our own vows and words of love to each other. I even sang a few lines from Billy Joel "Don't go changing." to my Jai.

It was not meaningless tradition and ritual but real heart felt us. A full expression of our love for each other. I think that is why it means so much to us, I do not think I would have felt the same with a big wedding all done like a cookie cutter stamp of every other wedding done. The same goes for our reception it was a very intimate small personal personable thing, we had cake I made (Chocolate with cherries in it and chocolate sauce on top covered in whipped cream) and coffee or tea. We sat and talked with friends and family and our new church family as well.

Everything was wonderful and meaningful, there were no traditional dances, or throwing the bouquet. Just a wonderful get together with everyone. Everything was heart felt and meaningful from start to finish.

I think this is why it did have a big affect on me. So yes I believe marriage is something that can change us spiritually.

Wonderful question from my Wife Jaianniah! :-D

The event of your marriage is a spiritual event. If you decide that it is. The daily life of your marriage as a spiritual event is for you to decide. It can be if you want. Or it can be just a legal ceremony to change your tax and insurance status. This is for you to decide.
And that decision is shown by how you treat your partner and yourself.

Marriage is uniting two opposite(male and female) so they work as one. so you could say that it symbolize the beginning of a work in progress to unite two opposite solving their duality and division.

in meditation it is the beginning of the journey. so we could say that in this world it is also the beginning of a journey to enter your kingdom together as one in this world.

like it is written in the gospel of thomas.

Jesus saw some babies nursing. He said to his disciples, "These nursing babies are like those who enter the (Father's) kingdom."

They said to him, "Then shall we enter the (Father's) kingdom as babies?"

Jesus said to them, "When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter [the kingdom]."

"Anyone here with two ears had better listen! There is light within a person of light, and it shines on the whole world. If it does not shine, it is dark."

Let there be light, be the light that you can be, experience and enjoy.

This is very delightful to hear, may God bless your marriage and make it joyful with gratitude. Its beautiful how the wedding was simple and meaningful, sticking to this is the recipe of a joyful and happy truly enriched life. This also reminded me of the prophet's saying ( the marriages with the least expenses are the most blessed), may God grant happiness for everyone who seeks a real life
