, is it ok for me to keep my eyes open?

I find it easier to focus that way. Any responses would be appreciated.

.29. Last week I gave you an exercise for the purpose of securing control of the physical body; if you have accomplished this you are ready to advance. This time you will begin to control your thought. Always take the same room, the same chair, and the same position, if possible. In some cases it is not convenient to take the same room, in this case simply make the best use of such conditions as may be available. Now be perfectly still as before, but inhibit all thought; this will give you control over all thoughts of care, worry and fear, and will enable you to entertain only the kind of thoughts you desire. Continue this exercise until you gain complete mastery.

What ever you are comfortable with should be fine.

Have you read the book completely first?

Thanks. I have only made it to chapter 2. I was under the impression of one chapter a week if you've mastered the previous excercise.

It was recommended to me to read through the whole book first then reread the book and do the exercises.

Yes, you certainly can keep your eyes open. No problem with doing that at all.

This exercise is aimed at calming and controlling your thoughts so many people prefer to keep their eyes closed to avoid visual distractions, but eyes open is fine too.

In fact, in some of the later visualization exercises, you may find it easier to visualize "inner pictures" with your eyes open also rather than closed. It just seems to work better that way for some people, despite it sounding more difficult to do.

My suggestion to you would be for you to close your eyes while doing the exercise! Try it, and after doing it for a few times, you will see that it is not that hard to do. Good luck.

Thanks for all your input guys. Its much appreciated. Ive actually found something that works for me. I put headphones on and listen to either meditation music or nature sounds, while staring at a candle. Its extremeley thereputic and helps me "go blank".
