This question ties in a little bit to John's question on which preachers/channelers/teachers of reality creation are the most famous out there.

I want to know which spiritual quotes have been the most inspiring to you at some point in your life and the author of those quotes.

A poem that sums up the purpose of life beautifully...

Ithaca

As you set out to Ithaca
hope the voyage is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery,
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
angry Poseidon - don't be afraid of them:
you'll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
wild Poseidon - you won't encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope the voyage is a long one.
May there be many a summer morning when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you come into harbours seen for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind -
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to gather stores of knowledge from their scholars.

Keep Ithaca always on your mind.
Arriving there is what you are destined for.
But do not hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you are old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaca to make you rich.

Ithaca gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you would not have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.

And if you find her poor, Ithaca won't have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you will have understood by then what these Ithacas mean.

My favourite for many years...

Ships are safe in port but that's not what ships are for.

Never been interested in who said it but since you asked...just looked it up on Google and it appears to be someone called Grace Murray Hopper.

That the power of the tongue weaves both life and death by Jesus Christ.

I just realize a couple days ago trying to do my postive thinking. That if the tongue can weave life and death it can also do prosparity, good health, happiness, wealthy, and of course the opposite. So we must be very careful by what we speak and think about ourselves and others. Try not to pull others down and find a way if you will to lift others up. The people we come in contact with everyday if we can put an smile on their face or be an good listen ear and not put it out there on the grapevine of life and help others and our selves and our families and mother earth for we were made from the dust of the earth and our bodies will return to the dust at the end of its cycle.

I think humans are their own worse critics we find fault with ourselves. I think we need to stop that and start looking for the good in ourselves and others. We need to forgive ourselves and others through the power of Jesus. We need to acknowledge that we have flaws within ourselves to ourselves, not to others for this is an personal quest, and be ok with that. We are made in the image of God.

I think we must love ourselves not in an vain way but an good way and treat ourselves better. For sometimes we are our own worst enemy. Some do for everyone else and forget to do for oursleves so that we may be properous, happy, relaxed and peaceful.

I think we need to bath in the light of Jesus and his love for us!

When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are Anything your heart desires will come to you

If your heart is in your dreams, no request is too extreme When you wish upon a star as dreamers do

(Fate is kind, she brings to those who love The sweet fulfillment of their secret longing)

Like a bolt out of the blue, fate steps in and sees you thru When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true

The way you activate the seeds of
your creation is by making
choices about the results you
want to create.

When you make a choice,
you mobilize vast human energies
and resources
which otherwise go untapped.

All too often people fail
to focus their choices upon results
and therefore their choices are
ineffective.

If you limit your choices
only to what seems
possible or reasonable
you disconnect yourself from what
you truly want,
and all that is left
is a compromise.

This is my favourite, and his author too:

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts... ~William Shakespeare.

It puts me in perspective when I'm looking at reality and find hard coping with it.

Another well known poem:

If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!

Rudyard Kipling

Even though I am not a 'son' but a 'daughter' I fancy my dad telling me these exact words:

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same...

It would be just like him...

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

I can think of a few from the Secret Of The Ages.

Such as Invictus by William Ernest Henley

"I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul"

or "I have not yet begun to fight!" by Captain John Paul Jones

These both inspire us to never give up and to find the answer even when it seems the odds a against us completely.

Journey

The time that my journey takes is long and the way of it long.

I came out on the chariot of the first gleam of light, and pursued my voyage through the wildernesses of worlds leaving my track on many a star and planet.

It is the most distant course that comes nearest to thyself, and that training is the most intricate which leads to the utter simplicity of a tune.

The traveler has to knock at every alien door to come to his own, and one has to wander through all the outer worlds to reach the innermost shrine at the end.

My eyes strayed far and wide before I shut them and said `Here art thou!’

The question and the cry "Oh, where?" melt into tears of a thousand streams and deluge the world with the flood of the assurance `I am!

Marriage

Then Almitra spoke again and said, 'And what of Marriage, master?'

And he answered saying:

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.

You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days.

Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,

And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another but make not a bond of love:

Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.

Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.

Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,

Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.

For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.

And stand together, yet not too near together:

For the pillars of the temple stand apart,

And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

The World Is Your Mirror

The world is your mirror. The good you find in others, is in you too. The faults you find in others, are your faults as well. After all, to recognize something you must know it.

The possibilities you see in others, are possible for you as well. The beauty you see around you, is your beauty. The world around you is a reflection, a mirror showing you the person you are.

To change your world, you must change yourself. See the best in others, and you will be your best. Give to others, and you will give to yourself. Appreciate beauty, and you will be beautiful. Admire creativity, and you will be creative. Love, and you will be loved. Seek to understand, and you will be understood. Listen, and your voice will be heard. Teach, and you will learn.

Those who trail upon the Inward Quest,

And look inside their souls to see what's there;

These are the souls who learn to live the best!

These are the souls who learn to really care.

If left to me alone I'd rather cry;

If left just by myself I'd flounder lost;

If left alone to think alone I'd die,

Friendless, and weary, and storm-tossed.

I have found God upon these glowing pages!

I have found peace amongst these many phrases

I have found peace to last all ages!

And now I see why God made us all together- sages.

'Tis those who seek who find, and those who knock and ask

They're the ones who find peace amongst their Earthly task.

Sonnet by Jaianniah, as a tribute to my friends on IQ,
