If you believe that we make a 'soul contract' before we're born and choose how and when and to what parents etc, I guess that answers my question in one way.

But if you don't believe that, or are not sure if you do, how do you explain being born with say, a large fortune, or enormous intelligence, a huge talent or some other privilege? You can't have manifested it since it was already there when you arrived, if you see what I mean! Can you just be someone to whom good things happen?

This is a bit personal, but I feel I might need to give an example; I never asked for money but I inherited some and am in the incredibly fortunate position of not having to worry about it now.

How come this has happened to me if I never had a hand in manifesting it? Am I just lucky? I don't actually believe in luck so that answer doesn't work for me. Do some things happen that we haven't manifested? I can't believe that is true either. The only answer I can find lies in needing to believe that we decide before we're born, and I struggle with that.

(Sorry if this seems a bit jumbled; for some reason am struggling to explain!)

Perhaps it is totally random. Luck is not the same thing. Luck still implies some underlying mechanism for choosing.

If you read the Jane Roberts "SETH" books (Ignore all the italics when you read them) you find that SETH echoes your exact observation. If you can get your hands on "The Nature of Personal Reality" Chapter2, Session 615 (11:29)"The creative power to form your own experience is within you now, as it has been since the time of your birth and before."

(04 Jan '11, 03:03) The Traveller

Continued: “You may have chosen a particular theme for this existence, a certain framework of conditions, but within these you have the freedom to experiment, create, and alter conditions and events.
Each person chooses for himself the individual patterns within which he will create this personal reality. But inside these bounds are infinite varieties of actions and unlimited resources."

@The Traveller - Amazing, I started writing my reply last night. I just posted and saw your comment. Our connection is clear :) I haven't read that Seth book, but I love Bashar ;-)

(04 Jan '11, 06:15) Eddie

Thank you Traveller, I have been meaning to look into the Seth books anyway - the books are piling up! I'll look into Bashar too Eddie, thanks. This idea of a theme or framework makes sense to me.

The SETH books are deep and you may have to read-through them multiple times to unravel their contents. (I'm still learning new things each time after reading them for many years). But the effort is well worth it because when you "get it" you really get an understanding of reality that is priceless.

(04 Jan '11, 14:17) The Traveller

@Traveller: But if it were so then why would anyone be born with diseases, abnormalities and all other negatives (I confess I have not read any SETH books, just inferring from your comment). I think it is more random just as user Vesuvius said or it could be the carry-forward of previous births deeds, that is, if at all you believe in past lives.

In order to be attracted to channeled information, such as Abraham, Bashar and Seth, one must at least allow for the possibility that channeling is possible and eventually you'll know it is real because it will just makes sense to you :)

How come this has happened to me if I never had a hand in manifesting it?

I believe that because the greater part of us is eternal, it did consciously choose (manifest) the kind of life experience we'd enter into upon birth into this physical realm. And in order to experience, learn and remember those things we came here to, a kind of template or life theme was chosen by our higher self and naturally stays with us throughout our life.

The best example I can give you is through looking back at my own life. The major work activities I’ve been involved in have been: a telecommunications technician, an advertising sales representative, a publishing company manager, a computer technician/consultant and currently, building a spiritual website and communicating metaphysical ideas through writing. All of these activities support the theme of communication in some way and I’ve loved each and every one of them, especially writing.

Believing as I do and contemplating the exact kind of example you quote, inherited wealth, I would say that one of the reasons you came here is to realize that money does not automatically mean happiness, but rather it's a tool which grants freedom. And even if you lost all of your money; due to your chosen life template or theme, your past experience and your beliefs, you'd probably find wealth again without too much difficulty.

Money and happiness:

If we consider the epitome of capitalism, whereby enough money will never be enough and ultimately leads to killing people and destroying nature. Obviously people on that path are far from happy. After all, you can’t go around happily killing people and wantonly destroying beauty. Never having enough money no matter how much you have obviously has its roots in fear, which is ego, which is unconscious action of the mind – that is clear.

How do you explain being born with some kind of privilege?

Even though a kind of template or life theme was set up by you prior to entering this life experience; because we create our own experiential reality, we have total freedom to change the theme if we so desire. So in that sense no one is more or less privileged than anyone else because ultimately, everyone has complete freedom to have, do and be any experience they choose.

Am I just lucky?

Look, everything around us is collectively co-created illusion, a perfect reflection of individual and collective thoughts. When you look into a mirror, what you see has nothing to do with luck - it just is as it is - an indication and reflection of your current state of being. Therefore, the way I see it is you’re right not to believe in luck. Luck, coincidence, randomness and chance are convenient scapegoats for people, especially scientists, to use when they do not understand something.

If you feel attracted to looking into the ideas of higher self, imagination, illusion, change and the eternal moment of now, with a relaxed and happy attitude - all of your questions will be answered :)

Eddie thank you this is very comprehensive and interesting answer. I particularly like your point about money as a tool which grants freedom, something I've been thinking about a lot lately as a way to get rid of the guilt, which serves no purpose. I am really grateful that I found this site with so many fascinating people and perspectives.

I'm sure I speak for many in saying: I'm glad to have you here so we can all share and learn from this co-creation, thank you :)

I am not sure there is any "bigger picture"! You have a loved one (or ones) who had some wealth, planned and saved, and they chose through their free will to leave this wealth in your care when they passed over. It was through the choices of this loved one, that you have received. How wonderful for you! Best wishes!

Thank you LeeAnn, what a lovely thing to say.

I have heard the very same thing that before we are born that we choose who our parents are and our circumstances we live in. Well, my honest answer is as close to the Lord Jesus that I am I really don't know the answer to that.

All I can say is if I did choose my parents which was alright, my circumstances I have to live in than all I can say is that I must have been rich in some past life, if you believe in that, and I did not know how to treat people and I had to learn this lesson because the poverty I have lived I would not have choose for me in my human form that is. Sometimes we need to learn how to humble our selves in the way we treat other people and in our learning of God.

They have said that our spirit comes here to learn lessons in our human form and to acquire understanding through in our human form and to enjoy life and to also to find our connections with God.

So, in order to answer your question I don't know what all come into play when we are born, how much is already added to our plates or rather we are born with minus on our plates.

I would just say don't worry about the why and what if just be thankful to the love one, like LeeAnn said, one that acquired the money, saved and invested it so that you will be well take care of financially.

It was a nice gift enjoy and stay grounded within who you are and just be thankful. I am glad you are given the chance to really be financially free of worry about how you are going to make it. Stop fretting and put a big small on your face and just enjoy being alive and being with people who love you and that you have one less care to worry about. Be happy;Congratulation Aquamarine!

Of course, none of it is luck it is just what you created for your self, consciously, or subconsciously!

Since, we are all born equal with the same rights, and privilege regardless, but the question is how do we use these rights and privilege successfully to create what we want in life? Apparently, you manifested your heart desire by creating the opportunity of the events that occurred in your life causing you to receive the gift you wanted for yourself, so that you can enjoy a better life style. You create your own reality!

Your spirit made the choice. Guilt at this stage is a comparison in your mind that many of us are programmed to do from the media. You are fine as you are. Just make the best of it, and don't listen to the garbage from our news sources. If you feel bad, donate a couple of bucks to your local church or shelter. They will love you more. Peace.

A boy was born into "privilege" and never understood the value of money. He alienated him self from others and looked down upon those who had less~ Was this a privilege?

A boy was born into poverty, took refuge in love and understanding, taught others to be humble and kind. He became an enlightened teacher~ Was this poverty?

As you see, it depends on perspective and what you do with what you have.

It is all empty.
