... and how did he get my email address from this site?

I am not happy.

Sneaking someone's email address for your own advantage is not Christian!

(12 Mar '10, 02:17) Inactive User ♦♦

Making baseless accusations against this website might not be very Christian either :-) If someone else has obtained your email address, I can assure you they didn't receive it from anyone involved in running Inward Quest.

Perry Marshall is a well-known internet marketer. You could be on his email database from anything you have bought in the past using your email address. We never divulge any personal details to anyone else either here or on PsiTek. I would be interested to know why you are so sure that this website is involved in privacy violations. Please go to http://groups.google.com/group/inward-quest-discussions and we can continue this discussion there. Thanks.

Thank you for your response. The message was not for you it was for Mr Perry Marshall. I know the value of keeping email addresses private and I have never given him mine. You are the only people I have contact with in the USA and the subject matter has to do with religious content. Are you sure your security system is as secure as you think it is?

@Lorraine: There are programs that scour the internet for email addresses. Your email address can be anywhere on the internet for these programs to pick it up, and even if it isn't, there are other programs that can "guess" at your email address by using random combinations of words, letters and numbers. So just because Perry Marshall has your email address doesn't necessarily mean it was compromised by this site or anyone else. You should contact Perry and politely tell him to scrub his database of your information.

@Lorraine - Actually, we are based in the UK, only the webserver resides in the US. And if what you say is true, don't you think there would be a flood of other people complaining too? I would appreciate it if when you discover that this website is unconnected with the email you received, that you post a public message here withdrawing this allegation. Allegations made in this dramatic manner without any supporting evidence are both unfair to those who give up their time voluntarily to help administer the website and also undermine the confidence of people who use it. Thanks

Simon - I understand where you are coming from and I apologise if I have it all wrong. As this is the only site I have EVER used my own name, Lorraine, I did jump to a conclusion. Having said that, being IT illiterate and not knowing how else to protect myself from advances made by fundamentalist thinkers I think it best that I withdraw from this site. I don't know how to do that will you do it for me please. Sincere apologies if offence given - unintended. Thanks.

I've deleted your account in accordance with your wishes. There is now nothing left on the site that links back to your email address.

(13 Mar '10, 07:03) Simon Templeton ♦♦

That's a shame...The website will be diminished by your absence. Best of luck to you.

The question has been closed for the following reason "off topic" by Barry Allen 12 Mar '10, 03:56

In the interests of openness, I wish to point out that Lorraine's account has now been removed from Inward Quest at her request.

This is why you will now see her picture appearing in a greyed-out manner.

The comments to the question above are hopefully self-explanatory as to the reason why she wished to have this done.

I wish to reiterate that protecting the privacy of those who take part in the site is one of my highest priorities and I can assure you that no-one involved in administrating Inward Quest (or PsiTek either) has ever divulged your email address, or any other information about you, to anyone else - and never will.

I can say this with assurance because the only people I allow to have access to that level of information are myself and my closest personal (offline) friends, who voluntarily act as appointed site administrators/moderators. These are all people I have known and trusted for years and who I physically keep in touch with on a daily basis.

Inward Quest offers the option of completely anonymous and unregistered participation and there is nothing to stop Lorraine continuing to participate with a new account as an anonymous user if she wishes to.

All the best,

Simon

I don't want comment the happening. I want only exprime my highest appreciation for allowing to keep up a participation to the site of Lorraine with a new account as an anonymous and I sincerely hope she will do this. My voting is a small symbol of what is there beyond my words.

The email: Just in case it gives you some clues..

Lorraine,

Nearly 10 million people have visited my websites www.coffeehousetheology.com and www.cosmicfingerprints.com. More than 250,000 have signed up for these emails & I've been asked nearly every question you can imagine.

My friend Andy from Willow Creek, one of the biggest churches in the US, invited me to come speak on "The Top 10 Objections to Christianity," -- and answers. My talk is posted here, both the audio and the transcript:

http://www.coffeehousetheology.com/top10/

The 10 questions are:

  1. "There is no scientific evidence whatsoever of any miracles ever actually occurring."

  2. "The Jesus story just is an accumulation of myths of legendary people, all rolled into one uber-nice guy."

  3. "Science and faith are incompatible ways of thinking. Separate realms that should be kept separate."

  4. "The history of science is the story of one religious superstition after another being eradicated by reason and logic."

  5. "The Bible is a translation of a translation of tales cobbled together by Constantine in 300AD."

  6. "St. Paul invented Christianity by making a nice rabbi named Jesus into a god."

  7. "Evolution disproves God."

  8. "In their arrogant superiority, Christians think everybody else is going to burn in hell for all eternity."

  9. "The Bible is riddled with contradictions and therefore cannot be the perfect word of God."

  10. "More people have been killed in the name of religion than any other cause in the history of the world."

To trace an email, you need the headers, and even then there is no guarantee that it is traceable, since headers can be forged. If they provided you with a legitimate email address, you can email them back and ask that your identifying information be removed from their databases.

In the future, you should post questions like this here: http://groups.google.com/group/inward-quest-discussions
