I'm sure most of you are familiar with the phenomenon in which celebrities seem to always pass away in "threes"; that is, when one famous person dies, two more seem to follow in a very short amount of time.

For a while I thought that maybe this was occurring due to a self-reinforcing belief on the part of the populace...meaning, that a long time ago, three celebrities died within a short span of time, and then people attached a "meaning" to it...therefor it started happening again and again.

However, recently I've been noticing that similar incidents (but of a different nature) also seem to be occurring in "multiples", such as the following Lotto wins:

"Earlier this week, a group of Quaker Oats employees who had pooled their cash claimed a $10,004 Powerball prize. Astonishingly, the win came only a few months after another group of Quaker Oats workers won a $241 million Powerball jackpot."

Does anyone have any insight into why this sort of thing happens?

Is the collective human consciousness somehow responsible, or does this have to do with the Law of Attraction operating on some sort of impersonal macrocosmic scale...events attracting events?

Thanks for your consideration.

I haven't myself noticed a chain of celebrities dying in threes. I guess it depends on what you term a "celebrity". In my view, having managed to get yourself noticed by a large number of people doesn't automatically qualify you as a person with gifts that should be "celebrated"...as many reality TV shows demonstrate quite clearly :)

Anyway, I can give you a metaphysical explanation for the old idea that "bad luck comes in threes".

I believe the ancient mystics used to call this The Law of The Triangle or The Mystical Triangle.

Consider some kind of force (physical or non-physical) being exerted. Let's label that first force as ONE.

Now in order for anything to change in this (physical or non-physical) reality, we must have a force TWO come along and interact with it. Having another ONE come along only adds to the existing ONE...so in this case ONE + ONE does not equal TWO :)

So, in our (physical or non-physical) reality, now we have... force ONE added to force TWO

Because we know that ONE must be different to TWO (from above), we must therefore get a creation of something new that we can now call THREE (an "effect" resulting from the two "causes").

From that creation of THREE we have now expanded our (physical or non-physical) reality

This is one of the reasons why the ancient mystics considered the number THREE to be so important.

So the mathematical/mystical equation that I'm expressing here is...

Yes, I know it's obvious. And even babies are probably taught that mathematical equation these days :)

But as you can see, there is a much deeper mystical concept behind the mathematics that virtually everyone overlooks.

The ancient mystics used to embody this concept in the form of Triangles where one corner of the triangle used to represent ONE, the second corner would represent TWO and the third corner would represent the newly created result... THREE.

Another way of referring to these mystical triangle groupings is as a Trinity

Here is one such famous Trinity...or famous to Christians at least :) ...

Holy Trinity

In this case, ignoring all the usual dogmatic associations, what we really have here is a diagram representing the creation of a human being.

We have ONE as "God", which is symbolic of the underlying universal consciousness that exists.

We have TWO as "Holy Spirit", a term which has been misinterpreted to mean ghost-like entity but which the ancient mystics used to use in reference to the energies that make up physical reality.

Now that leads us to the creation of THREE...Human Beings (Human Consciousness)...represented by the idea of the "Son"...labelled as Jesus ("The Christ Consciousness") on this diagram.

So what this diagram actually expresses is...

To put it simply, if non-physical consciousnesses express themselves through a physical reality, the idea of a human being (a focused blending of physical and non-physical) will naturally result.

Now how do all of these ideas tie into the old "bad luck always comes in threes" notion, which seems to underly your question?

It comes from people noticing over time that once a ONE appears and a TWO is interacting with it then a THREE must surely result, even if it hasn't physically manifested yet.

In the case of that saying, people are noticing unwanted things as ONE and TWO (which will lead to an unwanted THREE), but it doesn't have to be that way.

There are a zillion different examples of these Triangle-like cause and effect relationships, and you'll start to see them everywhere once you realize they exist.

To take a modern-day dramatic political example from the Middle East, we have had a few times now...

ONE = Dictator in charge of a country

TWO = People angry at the dictator for being repressed

Now that we have a ONE and TWO interacting then, sooner or later, that THREE is coming....recently that THREE has appeared in the form of political uprisings in that region.

Another example to ponder:

ONE = Rigid systems of conformity throughout human societies

TWO = People beginning to reawaken to the fact that they are powerful multi-dimensional consciousnesses and rebelling against the rigidity

...Methinks there is a THREE on the way :)

@Stingray - Thank you for the explanation...this is fascinating stuff. So, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me you are saying that because these numbers have special cosmic meaning, humanity as a whole is manifesting these event series...correct?

Aside from the holy trinity, I would be curious to know where the other "threes" and the mystic triangle come from. In an instance of apparent synchronicity, after I had posted this question (but before you posted your answer), I was reading...

@Stingray - ...an old book, "The Ancient Wisdom of Wales" by D. Jeffrey Williams. It outlines the ancient Welsh mystical philosophy, and virtually all of their concepts occur in threes. For instance, the Three Circles of Existence, the Triple Manifestation, the Three Primary Materials (elements), the Three Stabilities of Oneness, and many more. The ancient Welsh also seemed to develop a whole literary/historic form based on the concept of threes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_Triads

@lozenge123 - It's not so much that humanity is manifesting in three's, it's more that these numbers (which we all tend to take for granted) are symbolic of cosmic forces that shape our realities. This is getting into the area of Sacred Geometry which is a fascinating and mind-blowing topic to investigate. If these ideas are new to you, it might be worth taking at look at one of Ken MacLean's free movies at http://www.sunrise-production.org/ . I watched one a long while back and thought the...

@lozenge123 - ...concept of how the "force" of 3 was created - and the many higher forms - was quite elegantly explained. From memory (could be wrong), I think the movie was The Unity of Spirit and Matter ...might be some useful ideas in there for you to look into if this is an interesting topic to you. Because these concepts are so fundamental to the way our realities are constructed, it doesn't surprise me that they pop up in so many ancient mystical works in so many different ways.

It is our beliefs that create our reality. If our dominant thoughts are fearful, then we create or attract an event that gives us more of that, because that's what we asked for by focusing on it. So now we have this even that causes more fear. So the Universe says, "Score" and brings forth another event much quicker than the first. This stirrs up more of the emotions and the Universe is happy to provide more of the desire of our heart. After the third thime, we either notice a pattern, even unconsciously, and begin to change our thinking to support what we do want, or we keep getting more, leading to questions like, "Why does this always happen tom?" or "Why me?" Which, until we start getting answers from our questions, we keep attracting the same thing. If you really look at it, sometimes these bad things stop at two or keep going on to four or six. No matter how many, we will find a pattern. That's what we do.

@Fairy Princess - I like this answer, it makes good sense to me. Excellent point about why it stops at 2 or 3, I hadn't considered that before.

Thanks @Grace. Glad I could help. :)

Hi, my name is Chris and interested in your question. I don't know what the answer is. Everything in my life happens in two's and three's and don't know why. Also, I don't know how to stop it from happening. How do we control our lives if 2 and 3 are winners all the time? I have lived in three different countries. worked in three different shops. All three shop names begin with the letter "W" Had three accidents with my left arm. The list is endless. Born in the South of England, now live in the North. Reckon I will move on? Sorry I cannot be more helpful, but it is happening to me and I don't know what I can do to understand it or change it.

Hi @Chris Fowler I don't know the answer either lol, but I suspect it's something to do with the way we're wired. Here's an article you may find interesting

Stingray's answer is really good, but I might be able to explain a couple of National (USA) and International (Olympics) events which come in synchronicity...It all has to do with Leap Year in these cases. The Summer and Winter Olympics used to be held both in Leap Year...This proved costly, so the powers that be decided to move the Winter Olympics to the Second Year after Leap Year...The Presidential Elections are held in Leap Year. I guess they think we need that extra day of political ads...Bleagh.

A Trivial Answer, indeed...
